A spokesperson for the South African Presidency has confirmed that an ambulance used to transfer Nelson Mandela to hospital did break down on route.
Mac Maharaj told ITV News that "no harm came to Madiba" as a result of the break down.
"The blue light convoy included and ICU ambulance, ICU staff and at least twofast response vehicles" he said.
"One of those vehicles could have been used to transferMadiba, had doctors thought that he was in danger".
