Solicitor Imran Khan has given his reaction to "absolutely outrageous" allegations that the police attempted to smear the family of murdered teenager Stephen Lawrence.
Mr Khan, who represents Stephen's mother Doreen, said: "It ought to be a surprise to me that the Met Police were spying on the Lawrence family but in fact its not as surprising as I thought it might be".
He also told ITV News, he has drafted a letter to the Metropolitan Police Commissioner asking a series of questions.
"Once I get these answers, we need to take the matter further forward if those answers are not satisfactory".
A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said it shares concerns over the claims and a "thorough review and investigation" will fall under current live investigation Operation Herne.
Doreen Lawrence has said it will "take a while to gain trust" after she met with the Metropolitan Police commissioner over smear claims.
Scotland Yard has been confronted with another accusation of underhand tactics in its investigation of the murder of Stephen Lawrence.
The father of murdered teenager Stephen Lawrence said he felt "betrayed" by allegations the Met Police tried to smear his family.
