Report: Cirque du Soleil acrobat dies in Las Vegas show

A performer with the circus group Cirque du Soleil has died during a performance at the MGM Grand venue in Las Vegas, NBC reports.

Sarah Guyard-Guillot, 31, was pronounced dead shortly before midnight on Saturday, but the cause of death has yet to be determined.

An audience member told the Las Vegas Sun that the performer fell almost 50 feet from a wire into a pit below the stage, and that he could hear "screaming" and "groaning".

Cirque du Soleil said in a statement that the group was "heartbroken" and that the tragedy was a reminder of "how extraordinary our artists are each and every night".
