Inventor of the computer mouse dies

Doug Engelbart, the inventor of the computer mouse, has died at the age of 88.

The Computer History Museum in California, where Engelbart had been a fellow since 2005, said it was notified of his death by his daughter Christina Engelbart.

Engelbart's biggest breakthrough was the computer mouse, which has sold at least 1 billion since the mid-1980s.

The inventor developed the mouse - then consisting of a wooden shell covering two metal wheels - in the 1960s and patented it in the 1970s.
