Monday saw the A&E department at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham see more patients than ever before, and, with 325 people attending, today is on course to see even more admissions.
Today has seen the Accident and Emergency department receive:
- There have been 192 admissions to A&E since midnight including both major and minor admissions.
- The 5pm-6pm period was busier than the same time yesterday. Monday had been the busiest day overall for the department.
- 17 ambulances have arrived in the last 2 hours.
- 5 of those were bringing in a trauma case.
A&E departments across the country are having what some people call "a challenging" time and others say is a full-blown crisis.
Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham is a major trauma centre treating the most severely injured casualties from across the Midlands.
