Michael Cope, 28, has been charged with the murder of his ex-girlfriend Linzi Ashton after he handed himself in to armed officers after nearly a month on the run, Greater Manchester Police said.
A Home Office post mortem concluded Miss Ashton, 25, died as a result of pressure to the neck and multiple injuries.
