Police are hunting an escaped convict who fled from a court in Leeds as he was given an 18-month prison sentence today.

West Yorkshire Police believe he pushed a security officer and ran from the unsecured dock shortly after the sentencing at 10.30am.

Leon Brown, 26, was about to be jailed by a judge at Leeds Combined Court for breaching a community order relating to a blackmail offence. He is described as being 6ft tall and of a stocky build. He was wearing blue jeans, a khaki jacket and a blue t-shirt when he left the building.

He lives in the Chapeltown area of Leeds and also has links to the Gipton area. "Anyone who sees Leon Brown is asked not to approach him and to dial 999 immediately," a spokesman for West Yorkshire police said.
