Hull City renamed after owner brands name 'common'

Hull City AFC has been rebranded after the co-owner complained that the name used since 1904 was "common," the Hull Daily Mail reports.

The Premier League team will henceforth be known locally as 'Hull City Tigers' and simply as 'Hull Tigers' nationally and internationally.

Co-owner Assem Allam told the newspaper that the 'AFC' part of the name - which stands for Association Football Club - had become "redundant" and was not used by fans or the media.

“We just feel that, now being on the international stage, we need to strengthen the brand identity," he said.
