Competitors battle for title of England's top skimmer

Competitors of all ages turned out for the 2013 All England Open Stone Skimming Championships in Cumbria today.

Around 130 souls braved the wet weather in Windermere to compete for title of Britain's best skimmer, and for free National Trust membership.

The competition involves bouncing a stone on the water at least three times without it going out of a designated lane, with the winner recording the longest distance.

Husband and wife Kevin and Amanda Waltham, from Newcastle, were crowned champions in the open age section after skimming a stone for 77 and 17 metres respectively.
