Rugby league star wins payout for wrongful dismissal

Rugby league player Keith Mason has been awarded almost £150,000 in damages after he was sacked for gross misconduct when a naked picture of his team mate was posted on his Twitter, the Daily Mail reports.

Mason, 31, was dismissed last October after the picture of former team mate Scott Moore's bottom was posted to his account. It remained there for around 48 hours as the team celebrated the final game of last season during a three day drinking session known as 'Mad Monday.'

His club admitted the photo was posted without Mr Mason's knowledge, but dismissed him for bringing the club into disrepute by not deleting it soon enough.

Mr Mason said his former club wanted to get rid of him because of his expensive contract and said the Twitter picture was used an excuse.

Judge Andrew Saffman ruled in his favour and awarded the player £146,0000.
