Syria: John Kerry claims 'lies'

Syria has denied charges by US Secretary of State John Kerry that it uses chemical weapons, adding that "what he said was lies" and baseless. A US intelligence report says at least 1429 people including 426 children were killed in the attack.

Govt: Syrian action would be on 'humanitarian' grounds

The Government has published its advice on military action in Syria, stating that the legal basis for any such action would be "humanitarian intervention".

It said "if action in the Security Council is blocked, the UK would still be permitted under international law to take exceptional measures".
