Costa salvage effort complete

The Costa Concordia salvage operation has been completed, the head of Italy's civil protection authority announced. It took engineers 19 hours to raise the ship from its side.

Pulleys wrapped around hull will hoist Costa Concordia

Dozens of pulleys are wrapped around the Costa Concordia's hull and they will start to hoist the ship at around three metres and hour.

The most dangerous part will be right at the start as they begin to move the vessel off the rocks it is resting on.
