Lauryn Hill 'freed from jail' after tax conviction

Lauryn Hill has been released from prison after serving time for failing to pay taxes, according to the Associated Press.

The singer's lawyer Nathan Hochman said he has not yet had the chance to speak to his client since she left the facility in Danbury, Connecticut.

The Grammy award-winning star pleaded guilty last year to not paying taxes on more than $1.5 milliion (£925,600) earned from 2005 to 2007.

She was sentenced to three months in jail in July and, under the terms of her plea agreement, will spend the next three months under home confinement.
