The 15th year of the Pride of Britain Awards have been marked with a gala ceremony in central London hosted by broadcaster and presenter Carol Vorderman. The awards, which celebrate the country's unsung heroes, will be screened on ITV at 8pm tonight.

Carol Vorderman hails stories of bravery and courage

Carol Vorderman has hailed the Pride of Britain Awards for its stories of bravery and courage after a "celebratory" night at the 15th annual awards last night.

Vorderman, who presents the show, admitted some of the inspiring stories left her close to tears.

The former Countdown presenter revealed that eight-year-old Harley Lane, who had both of his arms and legs amputated as a result of meningtistis, rejected a kiss from X Factor judge Nicole Scherzinger at the awards last night.
