Shooting survivor Giffords set to visit gun show

Former US Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords is set to visit a gun show for the first time since she survived an assasination attempt in 2011.

Ms Giffords and her husband, former astronaut Mark Kelly, are touring the Saratoga Springs Arms Fair in New York today with US attorney general Eric Schneiderman as part of her national campaign for stricter gun control.

The former Arizona representative plans to highlight a voluntary agreement that closely monitors gun show sales in New York.

Jared Lee Loughner killed six people and shot Ms Giffords in the head during a public meeting in Tucson in January 2011.
