Senate agree US debt bill

The US Senate has passed a bill to raise the debt ceiling and avoid a potential default. It will now be sent to the House of Representatives for a final vote. President Obama has said he will sign the bill "immediately" after the House vote.

US debt breakthrough imminent as deadline approaches

With tomorrow's deadline fast approaching, it finally appears that the US debt crisis will end overnight.

Both sides have agreed to pass the necessary laws to allow the debt ceiling to rise and keep the government functioning, at least until January.
