Victim impact statements provide 'balanced view'

Under new rules published by the Ministry of Justice, victims of crime are to be given the right to read out a statement in court, in a bid to give those who suffer more of a voice in the legal system.

Barry Mizen, the father of a schoolboy who was murdered in a London bakery, welcomed the move. He said it would provide a "balanced view" and allow the courts to be given a "true impression" of the victims.
