Man charged over Joey Barton bottle throwing incident

A man has been charged after a bottle was thrown at Queens Park Rangers midfielder Joey Barton during his side's match against Burnley on October 26.

Barton was hit by a plastic container during the second half of QPR's 2-0 defeat at Turf Moor.

A Lancashire Police spokesman said John Pounder, 26, of Cedar Avenue, Haslingden, was charged with throwing a missile contrary to the Football Offences Act 1991 and a section 4 public order offence of using threatening words or behaviour.

He has been bailed to appear at Burnley Magistrates Court on November 22.
