Britain's Got Talent judge Amanda Holden said she felt "impelled" by the images of disaster in the Philippines to help the aid appeal.
Speaking at today's telethon she said:
"It's the mums in tents with kids that always upsets me when any disaster strikes.
"At the weekend I said to my husband I need to get in Red Cross van and go there."
