Eddie "The Eagle" Edwards has told ITV News he is "amazed" to be coming out of ski-jumping retirement.
"It's been 17 years since I put my jumping skis in my attic and I never thought I would ever use them again," he said.
But the Westcountry plasterer explained he had been approached by a company who would train and sponsor him to jump at an event on New Year's Day.
Eddie is insisting on using his old gear - made of leather, it requires dubbin wax to get rid of two decades of stiffening.
"I'd rather use the kit that I know and love and I'm used to, because trying to get used to new kit as well as going jumping as well might be a little bit too much," he said.
