More than 8,500 children aged 10-12 arrested

More than 8,500 children aged between 10 and 12 have been arrested in England and Wales over the last two years, according to figures obtained by the Daily Mirror.

Nearly a quarter of the arrests were for violent attacks, along with 95 allegations of rape, 214 sex offences, and 480 robberies.

The figures show that 8,511 have been arrested since 2011, but the numbers are likely to be higher because West Midlands Police and Gwent Police failed to answer the freedom of information request.

Half of the investigations into sex offences involving child suspects were discontinued, while a quarter were dealt with outside of court through warnings, reprimands and cautions.
