A rise in the number of people in employment shows that Britain is on the long road to recovery, said the Chief Secretary to the Treasury, after new figures revealed that unemployment fell by 99,000.

Danny Alexander said: "30 million people in work is another landmark on the long road to recovery. It’s only been possible because we’re sticking to a sound economic plan and because of the hard work of the British people and of British business".
