Residents along Thames prepare for more flooding

The Environment Agency has warned communities along the River Thames throughout Surrey, Berkshire and Oxfordshire of the risk of further flooding, after it burst its banks. There are currently more than 70 flood warnings in place.

Flood warnings and alerts 'to increase New Year's Eve'

The Environment Agency said it expects the eight flood warnings and 126 flood alerts currently in place over England and Wales to increase throughout New Year's Eve and in to 2014.

A spokeswoman said: "For New Year's Day, there is forecast heavy rain which will affect the southeast of England. It could be disruptive to travel and potentially impact on properties.

"Rainfall is also forecast for the south of Wales and England which could lead to some flooding in low-lying areas."
