Residents along Thames prepare for more flooding

The Environment Agency has warned communities along the River Thames throughout Surrey, Berkshire and Oxfordshire of the risk of further flooding, after it burst its banks. There are currently more than 70 flood warnings in place.

Weather warnings issued for Scotland and N Ireland

Bad weather is due to hit central Scotland, the Borders region and Northern Ireland, the Met Office has warned.

Yellow "be aware" warnings have been issued for the following areas for the next 24 hours:

  • Strathclyde
  • Central, Tayside and Fife
  • SW Scotland, Lothian and Borders
  • Northern Ireland

New Year's Eve revellers were also warned the bad weather is due to get worse on January 1.
