Thames Barrier closed due to spring tide

A member of the Environment Agency team that monitors the level of the Thames has confirmed that the Thames Barrier has been closed:

We have just started to close the #ThamesBarrier. A high flow at Teddington Weir combined with a spring tide is the cause.

Residents along Thames prepare for more flooding

The Environment Agency has warned communities along the River Thames throughout Surrey, Berkshire and Oxfordshire of the risk of further flooding, after it burst its banks. There are currently more than 70 flood warnings in place.
