Rising flood waters have breached the banks at the Thames Barrier in east London while it remained closed against the high tide.
The capital's flood defence was closed for three hours this afternoon to protect people and property along the river, according to the Environment Agency.
A time-lapse video filmed by local resident Michael Snasdell captured the breaching of nearby fences after the water levels increased:
A farm in Muchelney, Somerset, has been completely surrounded by floodwater following the recent storms, turning it into an island.
As river levels continue to rise here is a snap shot of the floods across the East and West Midlands.
Photos taken before and since the recent storms show how British towns, roads and nature have been affected by the extreme weather.
