The horrendous conditions will continue for some in the coming few hours.
Exceptionally windy with severe gales and damaging, disruptive gusts over the next few hours - it will be dangerously stormy through the north-west of England and north-west Wales for a time.
It will be cold enough for it to turn frosty and icy in places.
Rain will turn to sleet and snow across hills of the north and west with blowing snow and blizzards on higher routes.
The winds will not be as severe tomorrow but it will remain gusty with gales and yet more wet weather from the west.
