'At least nine dead' after South Korea building collapse

At least nine people have died and many others remain trapped after an auditorium at a resort in South Korea collapsed, Reuters reported citing local media.

The Yonhap news agency said more than 500 first-year students from Busan University of Foreign Studies were having their orientation in the building in Gyeongju, located 230 miles (370 kilometres) south of Seoul, when it collapsed at around 9pm local time.

Yonhap reported that approximately 70 students have been transferred to hospitals nearby and 300 fire and police officials are on the scene, but they had difficulty reaching the collapsed site due to heavy snow.
