David Cameron has revealed he did not help his Nepalese nanny during her exams to become a British citizen.

Asked about Gita Lima at a press conference during his visit to the Palestinian territories, he joked: "One of the questions is `What is the role of the British Cabinet?' I won't share with you the answer I gave."

Mr Cameron added that Ms Gita "does a fantastic job and fits the description of someone who wants to work hard and get on".

The prime minister's use of foreign domestic help came under the spotlight after Home Office minister James Brokenshire criticised the effects of the "metropolitan elite" using cheap migrant workers.
