An elderly man has been arrested after allegedly driving a four-wheel drive vehicle up to five miles (eight kilometres) the wrong way on a major A-road.
Motorists were forced to swerve to avoid a Vauxhall Antara as it travelled eastbound on the A27's westbound carriageway from 6.40am this morning.
A Sussex Police officer travelling on the carriageway managed to get the driver to stop east of the Kingston roundabout, near Lewes.
No-one was injured. Police said a 74-year-old man from Brighton was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and freed on police bail until May 22.
