Downing Street has described the stabbing of Spanish teacher Ann Maguire at Leeds Corpus Christi Catholic College this morning as "appalling".
The Prime Minister's official spokesman said: "The Prime Minister's thoughts are very much with the victim's relatives as well as the entire school community there, which I'm sure will be deeply shocked."
Although a shocking attack, this is a rare attack. There are few other occasions when a teacher was stabbed inside their school by a pupil.
A 15-year-old schoolboy is in police custody tonight, suspected of stabbing to death his teacher.
