'At least 34 dead' after tornadoes rip through US

A succession of powerful storms tearing across the southern states of America are now known to have killed at least 34 people. The storms have wreaked havoc in heavily populated areas, with the states of Arkansas and Mississippi hardest hit.

Tornado: 'I saw houses picked up and set on top of cars'

Eyewitnesses have described the destruction left behind by the tornadoes that swept the continental United States.

One said people were saying the storm had been half a mile wide, with another describing how he saw "some of the biggest trees just turned upside down".
