Police officer found hanged at Pooh Bridge beauty spot

A police officer has been found hanged at Pooh Bridge, which is famous for featuring in AA Milne's Winnie-the-Pooh books.

Pc Andy Cheney, 34, was discovered at the car park of the beauty spot in Ashdown Forest in Hartfield, East Sussex, on Friday, police confirmed.

The death of the officer, who served with Kent Police and lived in Etchingham, is not being treated as suspicious.

A Sussex Police spokesman said: "We can confirm that the man found dead at 6.23am on Friday April 25 at the Pooh Bridge car park at Hartfield on the Ashdown Forest was Kent Pc Andy Cheney, aged 34, of Fontridge Lane, Etchingham.

"A post-mortem was held ... and death was found to have resulted from hanging."The death is not being treated as suspicious and the coroner's officer is continuing inquiries for an inquest to be held in due course."

Kent Police spokesman said it is supporting the force with their inquiries.
