Steven Spielberg to direct live-action BFG movie

Veteran Hollywood director Steven Spielberg will direct a movie version of The BFG - the first live-action film adaptation of Roald Dahl's beloved children's book.

DreamWorks bought the rights to the book in 2011 and the project will be Spielberg's first movie since 2012's Lincoln.

Shooting will begin in 2015, with the film set to for the big screen in 2016, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The tale of a Big Friendly Giant, who becomes friends with a young orphan girl, was previously adapted as an ITV animated movie in 1989, starring David Jason as the voice of the BFG.
