Frederick Glenister was charged in connection with the alleged assault of the Ukip leader in Wheeler Gate at around 1.30pm.

Mr Farage was egged as he arrived in the East Midlands to rally support ahead of the European elections but quickly got back into his car after the incident and abandoned a planned walkabout of the city.

Glenister, of Radford, Nottingham, has been released on police bail to appear before Nottingham Magistrates' Court on May 22, Nottinghamshire Police said.
