Putin 'extremely worried after no contact' from envoy

The Kremlin are "extremely worried" that it has not heard from its envoy sent to eastern Ukraine to help free foreign hostages, the spokesman for Russia's President Vladimir Putin said.

In a statement, the Kremlin said: "Special Presidential Envoy Vladimir Lukin was sent to Ukraine to take part in talks on freeing the foreign military observers taken hostage earlier.

"Russian officials have not been able to make contact with Mr Lukin since the Ukrainian military operation began".
