Ukraine's defence ministry calls for release of pilot

The crews of two helicopters shot down in south east Ukraine have been evacuated, the country's defence ministry has said.

It also called for the release of a "heavily-wounded pilot" who was pictured being taken by pro-Russian separatists broadcast on Russian state media.

In a statement, the ministry said: "One heavy-wounded pilot was captured by extremists who waited for the emergency landing of the helicopter. His location is known. [The government has] taken measures for his urgent liberation."
