A police officer has been taken to hospital after a crash on a major road.
The A38(M) Aston Expressway, which links the M6 with Birmingham city centre, was closed off in both directions at about 5am today after a police patrol was in a crash with another vehicle. The road has now reopened.
The crash happened after reports of men running on the carriageway, which is classed as a motorway but has no central reservation, West Midlands Police said.
A police officer involved in the incident was taken to hospital for checks, while the driver of the other vehicle suffered minor injuries.
A third person, believed to be a pedestrian, was detained at the scene.
