Downing Street has reportedly denied Labour leader Ed Miliband's claim the Government is "cheerleading" the takeover bid for British firm AstraZeneca by the US drugs company Pfizer.
According to the editor of Politics Home, Paul Waugh:
No.10 spksman re Pfizer "The Govt isn't cheerleading for Pfizer, it's fighting for British job and British science."
No.10 adds: "Miliband is putting politics before the national interest in undermining that position". No.10 sources: Govt 'neutral' on deal
Pfizer has until Monday until it admits defeat in bidding for AstraZeneca. But after the shenanigans of the past few days we cannot be sure.
AstraZeneca's share price is tumbling back down to earth after the board rejected a "final" Pfizer bid. So is the takeover really over?
Sweden's Finance Minister says the Government should be "very, very sceptical" about any promises the US pharmaceutical giant makes.
