At least 19 people have died and more than 100 people injured after a passenger train derailed in western India.

Gas cutters were used to prize open the coaches to reach those trapped inside after the engine and four carriages jumped the track near a station in Roha, around 70 miles south of Mumbai.

The cause of the derailment was not initially known. The numbers of fatalities and injuries were expected to rise as the rescue operation continued.
