Vladimir Putin has indicated that the decision to withdraw Russian troops from near the Ukrainian border was a response to concern from the international community.
US President Barack Obama has accused the Kremlin of trying to "intimidate" the Ukrainian government by stationing around 40,000 troops near the eastern border.
"We're always being told that our forces on the Ukrainian border are a concern. We have withdrawn them," Mr Putin said.
"Today they are not on the Ukrainian border, they are in places where they conduct their regular tasks on training grounds,"
