Huge blast destroys Aleppo hotel used by Assad's forces

A huge blast destroyed a hotel used by President Bashar al-Assad's forces in Aleppo, state media and activists said.

The large explosion carried out by Syrian rebels destroyed the Carlton Citadel Hotel, which is near the city's medieval citadel and souk.

Rebels detonated explosives placed in a tunnel underneath the hotel with the blast causing widespread damage in the area.

The British-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said there were fatalities in the blast but did not give a death toll.
