The Prime Minister wrote in the Sunday Telepgraph that he understands concerns about Britain's place in the European Union and immigration, but said "real" patriots would be better off backing the Conservatives rather than Ukip.

Mr Cameron also reiterated his "clear and personal commitment" to step down as prime minister if he cannot deliver his pledge to hold an 'in/out' referendum on membership of the EU.
