Rapper Sean 'P. Diddy' Combs given honorary doctorate

US rapper and hip-hop mogul Sean "P. Diddy" Combs has been given an honorary doctorate degree in humanities from Washington's Howard University.

The 44-year-old, who attended Howard - one of America's most prestigious historically black universities - briefly in the late 1980s, delivered the commencement address at the ceremony.

"Ain't no homecoming like a Howard homecoming," he told the crowd. "And it feels so good to be home."

Before the ceremony the rapper posted photos on Instagram of him arriving at the ceremony with the "love of his life," his mother Janice.

"Howard University didn't just change my life - it entered my soul, my heart, my being and my spirit," he said in one post. "Nobody is going to invite you to the front of the line, you got to push your way to the front of the line."
