There has been a 120% increase in booking inquiries by Britons wanting to holiday in Australia, after the success of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge tour - according to tour company Austravel.

During the tour, the company received a new inquiry every seven minutes and have had to bring in extra staff to cope with demand.

Austravel general manager Karen Joyce said: "The Kate Middleton effect strikes again, but this time it's not the latest dress the nation is after, it's a holiday.

"We have seen a huge demand from travellers looking to replicate that of the recent royal tour."
