Ex-Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has been sentenced to six years in jail for accepting bribes linked to a real-estate deal.

The sentence is the first time a former head of government in Israel has been ordered jailed.

Judge David Rozen found the 68-year-old guilty of two bribery charges and said he had accepted 500,000 shekels from the developers of a luxury apartment complex, known as Holyland, and another 60,000 shekels in a separate real estate project.

Olmert had denied wrongdoing in the Holyland apartment complex deal, which took place while he was in his previous post of Jerusalem mayor.
