No attempts were made to save a drowning couple because bystanders thought they were 'playing dead' as part of a 'murder mystery prank,' an inquest heard.
Komba Kpakiwa, 31, and Josephine Foday, 22, were found floating at the Down Hall Country House Hotel in Hatfield Heath, Essex last April 27.
Hotel guest Marcel Haniff said he saw the pair, neither of whom could swim, splashing in the pool but dismissed it as 'horseplay.'
He said: "There was a murder mystery weekend at the hotel so I thought it may still be a prank."
The hotel's deputy manager Craig Vines said at first he thought the couple were 'playing dead' before pulling their lifeless bodies from the pool.
The inquest continues.
