'Smell of tear gas' on streets of Brazil amid protests

The smell of tear gas, or possibly, pepper spray has been reported on the streets of Brazil. Protests erupted in Brazil earlier today as the World Cup looms large. Rioters took to the streets blocking roads, lighting fires and looting shops.


The hour of "kicking off" may be approaching. Already can smell first waft of tear gas.

Road blocks and marches hit Brazilian cities on Thursday as disparate groups criticised spending on the upcoming World Cup soccer tournament and sought to revive a call for better public services that swept the country last June.
