A senator in the US has proposed bringing back execution by firing squad in the wake of a botched lethal injection in another state, the Associated Press has reported.

Republican Paul Ray from Utah believes death by firing squad is the most humane form of execution and he plans to reintroduce it as on option for criminals sentenced to death in his state

"It sounds like the Wild West, but it's probably the most humane way to kill somebody," Ray said.

Mr Ray argues that the controversial method is more palatable in the wake of the botched lethal injection execution in Oklahoma last month. The US is suffering from a shortage of the drugs required to make the fatal cocktail used to end a prisoner's life.
