Nigel Farage has claimed that groups backed by trade unions are attempting to stop him speaking publicly after he failed to attend a disastrous 'carnival' in Croydon amid security fears.

Farage 'was too busy' to go to Croydon carnival

Nigel Farage said he failed to attend a campaigning event in Croydon today because he was "too busy", denying reports that his no-show was due to safety concerns.

"Our Croydon branch had a little street party and they were desperate for me to go, but I've been a bit busy," said the Ukip leader.
